Playstation Home Gets Patched, LOSES Functionality

According to Sony this will incurr about 6 hours of downtime.

The reason? Supposedly this will fix some of the connection issues that are a hallmark of the fledgling service.

That’s the GOOD news.

On a sadder, more dark and sinister level, Sony also stated that they are… well… this is just stupid. Here’s a quote:

Additionally, as part of version 1.04, the voice chat feature within PlayStation Home will be temporarily suspended. As soon as we are ready to resume the voice chat feature, we will inform you via PlayStation.com and PlayStation.Blog. In the meantime, we encourage users to make use of the Wireless Keypad for PLAYSTATION 3 or any USB or Bluetooth-enabled keyboard for text chat and also the “phone friend” features to communicate within PlayStation Home.

We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause you and kindly ask for your understanding.

Really? No voice chat except one-on-one personal calls?

Once again Sony is answering the question ‘how can we make things worse?’ with amazing efficiency.

[UPDATE] Apparently the patching is done. The European version of Home has also had a few new stores added (Diesel and Ligne Roset) and even some new free items. Hoping this will extend to the North American version of Home sometime today.

We’ll keep you posted
