Microsoft E3 2009 Press Conference – The Rundown

The key points:

  • First downloadable content for Beatles: Rock Band will be the ‘Abbey Road’ album. ‘All You Need Is Love’ will be an XBox 360 exclusive track.
  • XBox Video Marketplace will be relaunched and rebranded as a Zune property, bringing convergence between XBox and the upcoming Zune HD.
  • Alan Wake is still alive and will launch Spring 2010. Gameplay footage we saw was very impressive.
  • Halo ODST Street Date is 9-22-09.
  • Left 4 Dead 2 announced. Will be an XBox exclusive.
  • Crackdown 2 is coming.
  • Project Natal (Microsoft’s Motion Control) will be a ‘controller-less controller’. Measures movement in 3D space.
  • Tony Hawk demonstrated Tony Hawk Ride and it’s unique skateboard controller.
  • Facebook,, and Twitter will be integrated into XBox Live.
  • New options for purchasing Avatar items in XBox Live.
  • Netflix support will be improved. MS promises ‘instant viewing’ of 1080p content, and the ability to change your Netflix queue from your console.
  • Metal Gear Solid Rising coming to XBox 360, will NOT include Solid Snake as a character.
  • Epic Games announces Shadow Complex, and exclusive title for XBox Live Arcade.
  • Lionhead announces Milo… essentially an artificial child for you to teach, scold, and interact with. It looked creepy.
  • Final Fantasy XIII coming to the U.S. Spring 2010.
